All Nippon Airways Launches Aviation-Themed Non-Fungible Token Marketplace

Japan’s top airline, All Nippon Airways (ANA), announced the launch of its ANA GranWhale non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace on May 30. This aviation-themed marketplace will feature the captivating work of renowned aerial photographer Luke Ozawa in its debut collection.

Introducing ANA GranWhale

The project was first announced in August 2022 by ANA NEO, a subsidiary of All Nippon Airways (ANA). The virtual travel platform was titled “ANA GranWhale” to represent the memories and dreams of travelers around the world who have used ANA throughout its 70 year history. It will comprise three distinct services: Sky Park, a travel-themed park space; Sky Mall, a shopping space; and Sky Village, a visionary area inspired by cities of the future which harnesses advanced technologies such as virtual reality (VR).

Debut Collection Features Photo Turned NFT

The debut collection for this unique platform features one photo turned into a non-fungible token (NFT). This auction for this singular item will be bundled with film that serves as the original source for photo development and will begin at 100,000 yen. On June 7th, there will also be another collection released featuring 3D model airplanes with 1,574 items available for purchase at 7,870 yen each.

Loyalty Benefits Through ‘Planies’ Collection

In July 2022 airBaltic released their second NFT collection titled ‘Planies’ which featured 10 thousand cartoon aircraft designs with holders receiving loyalty benefits such as points to redeem flights and other rewards.

Conclusion

We can see from these two examples that airlines are exploring how to incorporate non-fungible tokens into their businesses in order to offer customers more exciting experiences and reward them with loyalty benefits like flight points redemption opportunities.
